Edith Hope is a middle aged romance writer, whose personal life leaves something to be desired. Single, shy and out of step with current trends, she writes diligently for a nostalgic market: women who like their romance old fashioned and wholesome. Yet Edith is lonely, and so she starts making mistakes with men. A married lover and a lover she won’t marry all add up to a mish mash of events which lead her for a recuperative stay at Hotel du Lac. There, Edith embarks on a journey of self discovery, and in the process finds odd friendships, suitors and joy de vivre in her own right.
